The ministry of education has flagged off the distribution of course books for the new curriculum to all public schools across the country. The exercise which kicked off a week ago saw thousands of English and Kiswahili textbooks as well as teachers’ guidebooks for the two subjects distributed to schools across the 47 counties. A total of 1.5 million copies of English textbooks and 1.5 million copies of Kiswahili textbooks have been published ready for distribution to schools. Thirty-five thousand copies of English teachers guidebooks have been published as well. These batch of books are for students in grades one two and three who are the pioneers of the competency-based curriculum 2-6-6-3 which will replace the old curriculum 8-4-4 which focused mainly on passing exams and not horning talents and skills. According to the education cabinet secretary Ambassador Amina Mohamed and Francis Baya the board chair of Kenya Literature Bureau, a leading publishing house in Kenya, the distribution of the textbooks is expected to be complete by 15th of January 2019.
